Position: Treatment Specialist – Residential

General Summary: 
To assist and provide support for clients in meeting their daily needs in a healthy and safe manner. To monitor clients physical, social and behavioral needs and to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the initiation of appropriate interventions and support.
 
Essential Job Functions:  
·        Assist the client with their recovery plan goals by:
a.       Providing information, education, role modeling, practice and feedback to assist in their development of coping skills, daily living skills and community living skills.
b.      Monitor client’s completion of assignments.
c.       Observe client reactions to situations and level of insight and understanding.
·        Provide and promote a safe environment:
a.       Practice infection control in accordance with Agency procedures.
b.      Maintain a clean, organized, and in good repair physical environment.
c.       Teach and promote client’s personal hygiene skills.
d.      Follow safety procedures.
·        Maintain and support co-workers in providing the five therapeutic components of the program milieu:
a.       Containment: Consistent follow through of program rules.
b.      Structure: Follow daily schedule
c.       Support:
d.      Involvement: Supervise, facilitate and participate in education classes, recreational and social activities, and role model.
e.       Validation:
·        Monitor vital signs in accordance with procedures.
·        Provide client medication as prescribed and according to the five “Rs” of Medication Administration.
·        Provide accurate charting and record keeping on clients, each shift, as required by the Agency’s Policy and Procedures.
·        Maintain filing/data systems on clients.
·        Complete intake, discharge and unit orientation for all clients
·        Assist in the orientation of newly hired Treatment Specialists.
·        Perform duties required for the shift, per shift protocol list.
·        Understands, refers to, and adheres to Catholic Charities’ mission, policies and procedures.
·        Provides accurate charting and record keeping on clients as required by policies and procedures.
·        Utilizes communication channels to keep co-workers and supervisors informed.
·        Responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive team –focused work environment and effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers.
·        Demonstrates a professional demeanor and professional boundaries at work and the public as a representative of Catholic Charities.
·        Actively participates in the program and/or departmental continuous quality improvement process.
·        On an annual basis, completes required mandatory trainings and 10 additional continuing education hours.
·        Performs other duties as assigned, to ensure the quality of the program and services. 
 
Supportive Job Functions:
Performs other related duties as requested by executive management. (5%) *These tasks do not meet the Americans With Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and usually equal 5% or less of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
·        Knowledge and skills in interpersonal relations, verbal and written communication.
·        Knowledge and abilities to organize work, handle multiple tasks with accuracy and in an appropriate time.
·        Ability to operate equipment including personal computer, copy and fax machine.
·        Abilities to make decisions in emerging situations and absence of a supervisor.
·        Knowledge and ability to practice Federal Confidentiality regulations.
 
Education and Experience and Other Requirements:
·         High School Diploma/GED
·         College or Trade School degree preferred.
·         Previous experience in the area of mental health and/or substance abuse services preferred.
·         Valid driver’s license and driving record insurable with the Agency’s liability carrier.
·         CPR certified or becomes certified within specified time.
·         First Aid certified or becomes certified within specified time.
·         Medication Aide certified or becomes certified within specified time.
 
* Catholic Charities expects any staff in a recovery program for substance abuse and/or mental illness, have a minimum of 2 years continuous recovery.
