Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? As a Senior Donation and Family Advocate, you'll play a crucial role in supporting families through the organ, tissue, and eye donation process. This position involves hospital rounding to assess donor readiness, participating in huddles with hospital partners, and informing families about their loved one's donor status. If you're ready to advocate for donation and support families during critical moments, this role is for you.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for Donation:
    • Conduct hospital rounding to assess donor families' readiness for donation conversations.
    • Participate in huddles with hospital partners to discuss the best timing for approaches.
    • Inform families about their loved one's donor status if registered.
    • Present donation opportunities to families and advocate throughout the process.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Identify the legal decision-maker and provide the option for donation.
    • Complete necessary paperwork, including authorization for donation and medical/social history (DRAI).
    • Accurately track and document responsibilities in real-time.
  • Family Support:
    • Guide families through the donation process, explaining authorization, procedures, timing, and recovery.
    • Facilitate memory-making activities when appropriate and approved by the family.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration:
    • Participate in community events and education opportunities.
    • Engage in case debriefs and quality investigations to improve processes.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and skills for continuous professional development.
  • Training and Development:
    • Mentor and train team members in job skills and advanced principles.
    • Develop and update departmental orientation resources.
    • Coordinate and facilitate orientation and training sessions.

Schedule:

  • Participate in scheduled 24-hour on-call shifts.
  • Respond to referral and case activity needs promptly.
  • Respond to emails and communications during shifts.
  • Evening home time unless traveling for a case.
  • Attend department meetings, trainings, and case debriefs as needed.

Expectations:

  • Embrace challenges and seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead training initiatives and develop educational resources.
  • Stay up-to-date with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide culturally appropriate support and communication.
  • Contribute to team goals and prioritize donor and workplace safety.

Requirements:

  • Mastery of the Advanced Donation and Family Advocate role.
  • At least 6 months of experience in an advanced advocacy role.
  • Significant positive contributions to the department and organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Background in crisis intervention and advocacy preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, organ procurement, or transplant beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance.
