GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Information Systems Director or designee, this position is responsible for various aspects of Information Security across the enterprise, which includes data availability, data integrity, authentication, confidentiality. This position will monitor security policy and procedures and utilize security tools in their daily tasks for both the County and contracted agencies. Duties will require considerable responsibility and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support security operations by continually monitoring the technology resources and analyze the environment for security threats/vulnerabilities and unauthorized access.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, County employees, elected officials, department heads, attorneys, law enforcement, other agencies, vendors, and the general public.
Perform forensic examinations to ensure proper containment and preservation of evidence, tracking of forensic events, maintenance of the chain of custody, and other related tasks.
Manage and respond to service tickets to ensure appropriate resolution of issues; analyze service tickets to identify issues, patterns, etc. that pose security threats.
Prepare and present audit and assessment findings, as well as recommendations of options to mitigate risks, achieve policy and regulatory compliance, and strengthen controls.
Recommend, draft, and contribute to the development of information technology and information security policies, procedures, and standards to govern information technology usage.
Contribute to the communication and enforcement of the information technology security policies, standards, and procedures.
Responsible for the administration, planning, and delivery of information technology security policy training and security awareness activities; respond to questions and resolve problems related to such.
Utilize a variety of security tools to manage, analyze, and review logs and or activity.
Maintain and develop information security knowledge and skills by researching technical literature and attending classes, seminars, and conferences.
Plan and coordinate Cyber Security Awareness Programs for both the County and contracted agencies.
Keep current in Information Security trends, tools, and processes.
Keep current with regulatory and professional advances.
Report to assigned worksite with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Participate in meetings.
Participate as a member of various committees, as assigned.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
May be assigned to perform duties of the Security Manager in their absence.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree from a college or university in Information Technology or related field required*.
Three (3) years of bona fide work experience in Information Technology Security required*.
Introductory or intermediate security certification(s) are desirable (examples include Security+, GSEC, CEH, CISA, SSCP), but practical/field experience is rated highest.
*Approved education or work experience beyond that required which provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered and substituted for the stated education.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of securing and use of various desktop, server and mobile operating systems
Advanced knowledge of securing local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and networking components
Considerable knowledge in the use of security tools
Well-developed communication skills, and ability to exchange information effectively in person, and via telephone, email, and other electronic means
Ability to work multiple concurrent projects/tasks; ability to listen, follow and recreate issues over the phone or via email
Ability to work within a team and independently
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
Ability to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information

Work is typically performed indoors in an office setting. Due to the nature of the position, duties may involve occasional exposure to moving parts and outside environment. Work hours may include evenings, early mornings, weekends, call-ins, holidays, and on-call assignments. Work may be fast-paced when dealing with multiple priorities and time constraints. The noise level is typically moderate.
