Position Description

If you are looking for a place where you can make a difference in the life of a child, Project Harmony is looking for you. We are seeking an experienced and committed Anti-trafficking Youth Specialist to join our team.  This position is responsible for providing crisis intervention and support services to youth suspected or identified as victims of human trafficking and their caregivers. The specialist will work in partnership with the youth to provide relationship-focused, client-centered, low barrier services that respond to clients’ needs for safety, housing, basic needs, connections with family and community, and mental and physical health care. The goal of the trafficking specialist is to optimize functioning and well-being of high-risk youth and/or youth survivors of human trafficking by providing and coordinating high quality services and supports.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to immediate crisis needs of youth and caregivers. 
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate. 
  • Provide comprehensive case management services to high-risk youth and/or youth survivors of human trafficking. 
  • Provide community, school, and/or home-based education and support to assist youth high-risk youth and/or youth survivors of human trafficking and their caregivers.
  • Develop support systems to meet client needs by identifying and coordinating a variety of available services. 
  • Provide education and advocacy to reduce barriers or challenges within employment, housing, mental health, physical health and other social service systems. 
  • Collaborate with client to create safety plans, community reintegration plans, and reconnection to family or informal support plans. 
  • Complete assessments, individualized service plans, reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries completed in accordance with agency policies/procedures.
  • Provide timely follow-up to ensure a coordinated service delivery response.
  • Maintain documentation of contact with clients, service plans and other required documentation for grant purposes in a timely manner.
  • Collect statistics and implement quality improvement procedures as defined by program.
  • Coordinate referrals with other professionals, organizations and agencies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive list of community treatment providers and resources for families.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other agencies and service providers, including case managers, to advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Participate in consultation and supervision sessions as required by agency.
  • Ensure culturally competent services are provided to all families we serve without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Anti-Trafficking Youth Services Program Manager.

Requirements

Qualifications

 

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Counseling or related field.
  • Training and/or experience in serving child abuse victims.
  • Training and/or experience in crisis intervention.

 

Work Experience

  • Experience (3+ years) working with children and families impacted by child abuse/neglect.
  • Experience (3+ years preferred) working with high-risk youth and/or youth survivors of labor and sex trafficking, and the criminal justice and child welfare systems is preferred.
  • Previous experience in working with at-risk youth of all ages.
  • Previous experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Case management experience, including navigating NDEN systems helpful.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Good working knowledge of community resources and judicial system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of family violence and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

 

Other

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and provide on-call coverage nights and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Position involves some travel, primarily within the state.
