Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Utility Service Technician II located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes December 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

Position Summary

Utility Technicians provide support to all departments during all modes of operation and are responsible to maintain the cleanliness and material condition of Cooper Nuclear Station and associated equipment, which includes CM's (corrective maintenance) and PM's (preventive maintenance). Personnel in this position also operate and maintain overhead and mobile cranes, construction equipment, and perform various preventative maintenance tasks. This position also assists with repairs of buildings, grounds and facility equipment, assist with facility operations, and with after hour scheduled and non-scheduled work and under all weather conditions. These positions will be required to qualify as, and perform the duties of a Fire Brigade member. The incumbent is also subject to the District's Fitness for Duty Program. Incumbents must be able to respond to the plant within 45 minutes to satisfy Emergency Plan requirements.

Must be able to pass the Fire Brigade physical per the NFPA 1582 standards (Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments) and obtain/maintain respirator qualifications.  Must comply with NFPA 1582 standards as appropriate to NPPD.

This position requires working rotating shifts.

 

Education, Training and Experience

Requirement:  Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) test results.

Utility Service Technician II - High school diploma or GED and experience as listed below. 

Fire Brigade Training:

Fire Brigade members must pass an annual fire brigade physical and be able to participate in and successfully complete training that includes 3-4 full days of wearing a fire brigade firefighting ensemble.   The ensemble includes SCBA gear (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). 

Fire Brigade firefighters must be able to carry/drag two to three sections of fire hose (each section is approx. 50#) filled with water up several flights of stairs, in adverse conditions including extreme heat, extreme cold, no visibility, high stress, and high noise.

Utility Service Technician I - Successful completion of Utility Service Technician II training and demonstrated performance as a Utility Service Technician II.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Qualify as required and maintain qualifications to be a member of the Fire Brigade responsible for responding to any fire/rescue related emergency. Must be able to perform industrial firefighting [essentially as provided in the NFPA 600 Standard on Industrial Fire Brigades].  While they may perform actual firefighting functions on an infrequent basis, they are required to be able to do so at a moment’s notice. Firefighting involves the performance of essential functions in an effort to preserve human life and to protect public health, safety, and property. Any failure to perform these essential functions can result in very serious consequences. Must be able to obtain and maintain respirator qualifications.

Provide 24-hour coverage as needed to support Cooper Nuclear Station for equipment concerns and as a qualified and active member of the Emergency Response Organization.

Perform maintenance activities and operate the building overhead cranes as necessary to support personnel on all aspects of plant maintenance activities. Perform rigging activities on essential and non-essential plant components as necessary to support maintenance activities. Erect scaffolding throughout the plant to support maintenance activities.

Perform maintenance and cleaning on buildings and grounds and associated permanent systems and equipment as necessary and operate heavy equipment to support plant maintenance and operations activities.

Perform snow removal, which may consist of working during bad weather conditions and outside regular scheduled hours, operating appropriate snow removal equipment.

Safely handle special nuclear material and radioactive waste as required.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Utility Service Technician II     non-exempt pay grade 9: $28.07-$32.47

Utility Service Technician I      non-exempt pay grade 10: $34.08/hour

 

Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
