The Electrical Engineer I/II/Sr. provides highly technical engineering services for the planning, design, procurement and construction of pipeline and/or compression projects for Northern Natural Gas Company’s pipeline system.  This position leads the development of project drawings and documents for the design and construction of electrical equipment.  Typical project types include power distribution and emergency generation, new control systems and control system retrofits, site grounding projects, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and other data collection/communications projects, electrical safety related projects, and other projects as determined by Northern’s business needs.  The position also conducts engineering studies and investigations and prepares oral and written reports, provides engineering assistance to other departments and stays informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit Northern’s business.  Work involves fast paced, challenging, and interesting projects in a multi-discipline team environment.
 
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Initiate, coordinate, design and implement engineering projects.
 
Provide engineering and technical direction services for pipeline and operations and maintenance functions for natural gas pipeline and compression facilities.
 
Possess a strong understanding of the National Electric Code and other applicable industry electrical standards and ensure design drawings are in compliance.  Provide guidance to third party installation contractors, to site operations and maintenance personnel regarding adherence to the NEC and other applicable industry electrical standards.
 
Must meet project schedules for multiple concurrent projects.  Work with site personnel to determine accurate project scope and estimates.  Work with designers to provide guidance and review of project drawings, review, create and use engineering specifications, procure materials, and support factory acceptance testing, construction and commissioning.
 
Work with third party automation integrators to ensure project development meets NNG standards, and provide commissioning support.
 
Conduct economic and technical feasibility studies, investigating various alternatives, and making recommendations on course of action.
 
Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
 
Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company’s business.
 
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
 
In lieu of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, applicants possessing a bachelor’s degree in a different engineering or technical field with appropriate experience will be considered.
 
Experience and background will dictate job level if offered (I/II/Senior).
 
Eight or more years of experience as a practicing engineer in related engineering applications or other related industry experience preferred.
 
Licensed PE preferred.
 
Engineering knowledge of natural gas industry related to the design and installation of pipelines, compressor stations and process equipment preferred.
 
Effective oral and written communication skills.
 
Strong technical writing skills including the ability to communicate a basic understanding of technical information to non-technical people.
 
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
 
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
 
Cross functional skills; ability and willingness to perform duties as assigned including project management work on specific projects.
 
Critical thinking and decision making skills to develop and present technical recommendations.
