A Brief Overview
Responsible for providing both administrative and clinical services to patients in accordance with protocols, policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with clinical duties to deliver safe patient care under the direction of an RN Provides basic, age appropriate care to patients and collects data such as patient vital signs, weight and head circumference specific to area of assignment. Utilizes patient/family input in delivering individualized patient care. Participates with the multidisciplinary team in providing feedback/input into the patient/family care needs. Prepares patients for examination by performing routine patient screenings. Sets and revises priorities based on patient care urgency, patient/family/staff requests, other department demands/schedules, utilizing available resources as necessary Communicates completion of tasks, and significant abnormalities or clinical changes. Documentation is accurate, per area standard, and completed in real time. Performs treatments, procedures, diagnostic/lab testing, and phlebotomy per protocol and/or order, based on department need Facilitates registration and utilization of Patient Portal (Childrens Connect) with patients and families. Performs other specialty tasks/procedures specific to area of assignment. Communicates in a compassionate manner and uses medical terminology appropriately. Complies with performance improvement practices. Ensures rooms are clean and ready for patient use and maintains supplies in rooms and re-stocks items as needed. Oversees equipment and supply availability in patient care areas by ensuring equipment and supplies are properly stored, taking initiative to clean equipment and follow up on equipment maintenance needs. Communicates equipment needs to leadership. Maintains patient care areas, i.e. keeping hallways clear of equipment/ obstructions and keeping work areas clear of clutter.
  • Administrative Duties, based on departmental need. Schedule and/or complete appropriate documents, processes or procedures delegated by the RN Takes initiative to greet, assist and guide patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner. Demonstrates professional telephone and interpersonal communication techniques. Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation. Orders area supplies, as directed, to ensure adequate inventory by anticipating area usage and needs. Takes appropriate action to ensure equipment is functioning and ready to use. Performs clerical and receptionist duties as needed
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
  • Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or GED equivalent Required and
  • Must be enrolled in an LPN or RN nursing program Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Experience as a nursing assistant with pediatric patients Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in basic computer skills preferred.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.
  • Must have effective verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management and creative thinking skills to enhance the customer experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through American Heart Association Required and
  • Current and valid Nurse Aide registry in the State of NE or IA depending on state of residence Preferred
