The department of Fine & Performing Arts at Creighton University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor or Instructor for a one-year appointment specializing in Theatre/Technical Direction. We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teachers within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The successful applicant will teach a 2-2 course load including foundational courses in technical theatre and serve as Technical Director for four productions each academic year. In addition, the applicant will oversee scene shop student workers during designated shop hours; oversee the mainstage/studio theatre calendars; and coordinate productions for on and off campus groups with the Lied Education Center.

Qualifications

  • An MA or MFA in technical theater, or equivalent or closely related degree and/or a demonstrated, significant record of professional or scholarly achievement; current professional working experience in the field of theatre; well versed in the technology currently used in professional practice
  • 2-4 years of professional scenic carpenter experience
  • Comfortable working on multiple productions simultaneously
  • Must be able to lift 75lbs occasionally, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work at heights.
  • Candidates with interest in community engagement, service learning, and teaching theatre preferred
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs
  • Evidence of excellent college level teaching is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others

  • One page statement describing candidate's potential contributions to Creighton's mission (https://www.creighton.edu/about/mission-history)
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidateâ??s teaching ability
  • Student evaluations of teaching, if available
